  • How do I know if my child needs speech language therapy?
As a parent, you must listen to your instincts and if you have questions- please ask a professional. If you are not seeing progress in developmental milestones, it may be time to consult with an SLP. If your child is not communicating with you using gestures or verbal language attempts, please contact us. Also, if your child is not socializing with peers appropriately and lacks meaningful relationships, we can help!
  • Is Floortime just for children on the autism spectrum?
No, Floortime can be beneficial for children with a wide range of delays and disorders. It originally was created as a way to help caregivers engage with their children, regardless of diagnosis. We have used the approach on children with language delays, receptive expressive language disorder, social challenges, behavioral challenges, anxieties, ADHD, sensory challenges, feeding difficulties, and more. The wonderful thing about The Floortime Approach is that it is tailored to meet the specific needs of each child.
  • How do you target negative behaviors?
We determine the reason behind behaviors versus just extinguishing a behavior. Our behaviors are driven by our emotional system and children with negative behaviors are trying to communicate. We support the child and family in finding the root cause of a behavior or set of behaviors and then determine based on the child’s developmental profile more functional ways to communicate.
